Just to jog your memory, we actually agreed on very small uplift to Alan's sequestration numbers, confirmed by you by email on 6 September with your recalculation attached to the email (p.s. your other email was 8 September, not 9 August). I can sen…

James, No conspiracy, just using numbers you were part of... and you did agree they were reasonable. Unexpurgated text copied from your email of 9th August to me in response to my last email on it. Would you like me to re-forward it to you? *****…

James Another way to look at the data is to use the forecast prepared by Pembina which you and I discussed and agreed mods to a few months back. Pembina GhG forecast 2010 Gross projected emissions 31K Less adj re lower # houses 2.5K (per our conv…

I take your point but how do we know they don't use identical methodologies? If differing methodologies can produce such radically different numbers then its hard to lean on them for any argument pro or con.

Thanks for inspiring this discussion Paul. I highly recommend Alexander’s most recent opus – a four volume set called “The Nature of Order”. Unfortunately it’s insanely expensive but beautifully produced and illustrated (almost worth it for the pho…

and here's a super-current Islands Trust doc on sustainability - directly relevant to OCP discussions. Only it doesn't provide per capita emission data, sadly. http://www.islandstrust.bc.ca/climatechange/pdf/climatechangereportsep302009.pdf

Probably fairer to compare to other islands if the data is available rather than suburban/urban environments. Here's a link to a more recent doc from Saltspring http://www.saltspringenergystrategy.org/docs/SS_Energy_Strategy.pdf - 7.1 tons per capit…

John Don't understand the point of your thread. There is no such thing as a population cap. Potential population is defined by 2 things today 1) Base Zoning which is in place for every piece of private land on the island and b) a view by a past OCP…

Take a look at this Paul. A great piece on Alexander by Witold Rybczynski. We could maybe take a look at one of Rybczynski's books. All this pattern stuff is getting clearer and seems timely. Fits very well with the new brain studies.

Thanks for joining in, welcome - the more the merrier and the better dialogue - regardless of position. Absolutely in the 'rules' for you to direct discussion on areas of interest and knowledge - no problem there. Isn't a clinic a private enterpris…

This is absolutely fundamental to any discussion - ridiculous that it wasn't available all along - but, its being worked on

John Think you meant Jeremy in your post above, they're his words :-)

Such a nice post Paul! When I read the book I was really astounded: you get to open up to the work of entire, examined life. The MFK Fisher of architecture? Paul you ask what makes those old European places so 'enduringly wonderful.' I don't have an…

Well, many people closely related to the "build it so they can come" groups believe this is the big answer - in fairness, it is part of any economic equation. Tourist/visitor traffic is the reason we have any retail businesses here at all as few wou…

I'm in! Have loved this book for years and have applied it far beyond architecture, into the world of facilitation, organization and community development.
