Interested in expanding food security and agriculture on Bowen Island? The Bowen Agricultural Alliance (BAA) is a new community group whose goal is to promote and facilitate the development of local food systems, agricultural knowledge-sharing and community building. You may have farming roots that go back decades. You may be a suburbanite with no land and rudimentary gardening skills but a strong desire to support local farms and food producers in your community. Or you're somewhere in between, interested in getting started with chickens, bees, or a community garden. The BAA vision is for individual and groups with any kind of agricultural experience or propensity to form connections, expand their base, and create synergies. Expertise, land, tools, labour, funding, and communication/marketing may be barriers to entry for individuals, but could certainly become assets for a community able to work together creating a bigger picture vision for our food and agricultural future.
How can you get involved:
- Come to two community food & agriculture discussion forums November 1 & 28
-
Confirm your intention to come and bring some local food to share
- Submit a food & ag questionnaire to help create a baseline of Bowen attitudes and priorities
- Join the BAA email list
-
Follow BAA on Twitter
- Come visit the BAA website (OK, it's a bit clumsy at the moment, but it'll get better, honest)
